He Will Testify

Monday of the Sixth Week in Easter

Read this Gospel passage aloud to the family

John 15:26-16:4 Jesus said to his disciples:  “When the Advocate comes whom I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, he will testify to me.  And you also testify, because you have been with me from the beginning.

“I have told you this so that you may not fall away.  They will expel you from the synagogues; in fact, the hour is coming when everyone who kills you will think he is offering worship to God.  They will do this because they have not known either the Father or me.  I have told you this so that when their hour comes you may remember that I told you.”

(Parent)  Reread this part a few times aloud

“They will do this because they have not known either the Father or me.”

(Parent)  Read this meditation aloud to the family

Ignorance is a great source of darkness in the world.  It is the source of many moral mistakes that we ourselves and many others fall into.  When we or others act in ignorance we do not intend evil, so we’re not as guilty.  However, evil is still advanced.  People do not need to formally choose evil for it to spread into their nations, schools, media, internet, children, marriages, minds, hearts, and souls…they just need to remain ignorant.  There is a great deal of ignorance in the world today.

Jesus Christ is opposed to ignorance.  Jesus is the Light that expels darkness and ignorance.  Jesus is the Truth.  We need to be very concerned with the truth.  Spouses, parents, and whole families need to be properly informed about what is true and to be very intentional about living accordingly.  We should discuss together what ideas we let influence our thoughts: What news, media, internet, and movies will we utilize?  These things will affect how we think, dress, date, marry, talk, pray, etc.  Ideas have power.  We must to be sure to strengthen our understanding of what’s true and what isn’t.

As a family, pray a portion of the Rosary together (very short if children are young) reflecting on the Scripture passage above. (Optional: allow a brief time for discussion or questions from children concerning their thoughts and prayer.)

Reminder for Parents: Pier is just meant to be a jumping off point. The real goal is that you pray & eventually use the fruits of your personal prayer as the content of your family’s prayer. Duc in altum.
